Snips is hiring a linguist for Portuguese (3-month contract, starting in
January)

*What you will do:*

Two central components of our solutions are Automatic Speech Recognition
(ASR) and Natural Language Understanding (NLU). In the past years, we
have designed state-of-the-art ASR and NLU solutions for French,
English, German and Japanese.

We are now looking for an awesome linguist to help us extend our
solution to Portuguese.

We are offering a 3-month position within our Linguistics Team.

It will involve:

- informing our teams about Portuguese (from Portugal and from Brazil),
  in terms of phonology, grammar, morphology, etc
- translating example sentences from English into Portuguese
- helping our teams build a phonological model of Portuguese, and check
  the pronunciations
- helping our linguistics team build and test formal grammars for
  Portuguese
- preparing guidance for crowdsourcing workers, and checking their work
- creating voice assistants for Portuguese (weather assistant, smart
  home assistant, etc), and working on demos for our prospects
- evaluating our technology for Portuguese

You will work with our Computational Linguists. You might also
collaborate occasionally with our Product, Machine Learning and
Engineering teams.

*What we are looking for:*

- Bachelor's or master's degree in Linguistics or Natural Language
  Processing
- Perfect proficiency in Portuguese (Portuguese from Portugal or Brazil,
  native speaker or equivalent level)
- Good command of English
- Good knowledge in General Linguistics, applied to Portuguese
  (Phonetics, Phonology, Semantics, Syntax and Morphology)
- Good knowledge of the differences between Portuguese spoken in
  Portugal and in Brazil
- Ability to grasp technical concepts, and to understand simple formal
  representations (that we will explain to you)
- Ability to work in close collaboration with different teams, to adapt
  to their needs, and to convey information about Portuguese -
  effectively
- Knowledge in Natural Language Processing is a plus (formal grammars,
  regular expressions, etc)
- Knowledge in command line is a plus (unix-style terminal)
