Researcher, Parsing & Semantics group: Integrating rich terminologies in NLP tools The Parsing and Semantics group at Xerox Research Centre Europe (located near Grenoble) is looking for a candidate for a one-year position starting ideally in February or March 2012. The candidate will work in a European-funded project EURECA (starting Feb. 2012). EURECA is aiming at building an advanced, standard-based and scalable semantic integration environment in order to bridge the gap between clinical research and clinical care systems. This will enable to: - Improve efficiency by reducing the need for multiple data entry in the information exchange between clinical research and clinical care. - Extract relevant clinical information from the EHR (Electronic Health Records) and contextualizing it to the patient case. - Obtain good semantic interoperability among EHR and clinical trial systems in order to allow more efficient patient enrolment in clinical trials, which is a need shared by both clinical care and clinical research as it would improve care and speed up research. - Build solutions for faster transfer and dissemination of relevant research results to the care. Parsing and Semantics group at XRCE will contribute to the project as a research and technology provider with the following main tasks: - Semantic information extraction from EHR and clinical trial data (extraction of concepts of the domain in accordance with existing domain terminologies). - Temporal processing of EHR in order to contextualize chronologically medical facts and events. . The candidate will be involved in the first step of the project which will deal with the integration of UMLS terminologies into our linguistic and knowledge representation tools. The candidate should have at least a Master's Degree or PhD in computer science, computational linguistics or related field. The candidate should have knowledge of terminologies (preferably in the Healthcare domain). Interest or knowledge in Natural Language Processing is also desirable. Knowledge of both French and English (as working languages) is required. Good knowledge of Java is also required.
