The Health On the Net (HON) Foundation, a Geneva-based non-governmental international organization dedicated to improving the quality of on-line health information for patients as well as health professionals is looking for an NLP expert. We are looking for somebody who combines an interest in NLP research with good programming skills. Key responsibilities: * Mapping out the research agenda, participating in (EU) research projects, writing deliverables and scientific articles, attending project meetings, giving presentations * Design and development of innovative techniques for improving search quality on text and multimedia formats - document classification, (multi-lingual) IR, automatic readability assessment and detection of ethical criteria in non-structured health web documents * Building fully scalable prototypes to test new algorithms and migrating from the research prototype to delivering the solution into production Desired experience and skills * Post-graduate degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or 3+ years experience in R&D * Background in information retrieval, document classification, or question answering * Experience in scripting languages (Perl/Python) * Experience in multi-threaded programming, and web-service applications are a great plus * Good command of English, other languages are a plus We offer: * An international research environment * A multi-disciplinary team of NLP researchers, web developers, health professionals etc. * A group active in the international NLP research scene, currently participating in the EU project Khresmoi * The opportunity to develop programming as well as research skills More information on www.healthonnet.org.
