Labex EFL (Empirical Foundations of Linguistics) is recruiting a
postdoctoral researcher in quantitative morphology. The position is
for 12 months (full time) and, depending on the results, can be
renewed for another 12 months. The position is provided by the strand
on « Experimental Grammar » of the Labex EFL project (strand 2). The
ideal profile combines a linguistic expertise in morphology and/or
lexical semantics and advanced skills in statistical modeling, machine
learning and/or experimental linguistics. However, applications
demonstrating expertise in one of these two area will be considered
carefully.

The postdoc will work within the context of the Morph3 work package,
entitled The many-to-many nature of lexeme formation. Phenomena
currently being studied within Morph3 include rivalry between
morphological processes and the rivalry between morphologically marked
vs unmarked sense extensions. Language(s) under study will be decided
taking into account the postdoc's expertise.

There are no teaching requirements in this position. However, regular
participation in collective scientific activities (e.g., seminars)
will be expected. Knowledge of French is not required.

Research Environment:

The postdoc will be affiliated with the Laboratoire de Linguistique
Formelle (LLF http://www.llf.cnrs.fr/), located in the 13th
arrondissement of Paris. The LLF is an interdisciplinary research
laboratory linked to the Department of Linguistics (UFR de
Linguistique) at the Université Paris Diderot
(https://www.univ-paris-diderot.fr/), which brings together
researchers from computational, experimental, theoretical, and
descriptive linguistics. The lab has an experimental room with
experimental material (eyetracker, SMI glasses, portable EEG...), and
houses a computing infrastructure for machine learning. Research will
benefit from the support of an engineering team with competence on
linguistics resources, experimentation and computing.

Starting date and salary: 

The intended starting date of the position is Oct 1, 2019. The
applicant's PhD should have been defended and filed by the starting
date. The position will pay 26.000 euros net per year.
