The Excellence Center « Empirical Foundations of Linguistics » is recruiting a post doc / engineer specialized in Linguistic Data Analysis The EFL Excellence Center is looking for a post-doc or engineer specialized in linguistic data analysis for its training strand, to train and provide support to EFL members (doctoral students, post-docs, researchers, lecturers and professors) in state-of-the-art methods and emerging trends in the analysis of linguistic data, and to support research projects involving complex data processing. Overview of tasks The working time will be divided into training actions (around 20%) and research support actions (around 60%), leaving about 20% for own research. The training part will represent around 20% of the recruited person's time. This will include setting up and ensuring, in coordination with the training manager and the EFL management committee, training actions (intensive training, training cycle, etc.) on state-of-the-art and emerging methods in statistical analyses of linguistic data. Given the great diversity of linguistic data processed at EFL (data from oral and written corpora, data from (psycho-)linguistic experiments or field studies, etc.), and methods (statistical and probabilistic models, deep learning, etc.), the recruited person is expected to provide training in their initial field of expertise, and to be able to extend their initial skills to other types of data and other methods, especially emerging ones. Research support part (about 60%): according to the needs for processing of linguistic data coming from EFL research projects, the engineer / post-doc will be associated with research operations over fixed terms to support these projects with respect to aspects of state of the art data analysis. Research part (around 20%): the recruited person will also be able, in coordination with the training manager and the management committee, to define their own research project within one of the EFL research axes. Qualifications and skills required - PhD / Master in Linguistics with proven (training and research) experience in statistical data analysis or PhD in Artificial Intelligence / Natural Langue Processing, with proven experience of collaboration with linguists. - High level programming language (Python and R) proficiency - proven practice of statistical, probabilistic methods of data analysis - a plus: practice in machine learning techniques, previous training experiences on IT methods and tools for linguists Context The Excellence Center "Empirical Foundations of Linguistics: data, methods, models" (Labex EFL) is a project funded by the French Government (ANR-10-LABX-0083) and supported by the IDEX Université de Paris (ANR 18-IDEX-0001). It gathers 11 research teams (CRLAO, HTL, Lacito, Lattice, LIPN/RCLN, Llacan, LLF, LPP, INCC-Language&Cognition, CeRMI, Sedyl) from 4 Universities (Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, Université de Paris, Université Sorbonne Paris Nord and Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales), in a partnership with the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the French Research and Development Institute (IRD). The aim of the EFL is to promote innovative and interdisciplinary research within Linguistics and related fields. Specific interest is given to empirical foundations (corpus analysis and experimental methods) of linguistic research. Training Strand The Labex EFL training program, which is aimed at Masters students, doctoral students but also confirmed researchers, encourages dialogue between scientific disciplines and paradigms, with the ambition of redefining the field of language sciences and its borders. It promotes international exchanges with prestigious international universities, in order to compare results, methodologies and theories, to foster interdisciplinary dialogue between language sciences but also with medicine, psychology, computer science, sociology, etc. The training offer reinforces that of the Master and Doctorate courses by high-level internships, thematic schools, mobility grants, training or thematic conversion grants and a cycle of invited conferences within the international EFL Excellence Chair. It also provides grants to foreign doctoral students within the framework of multidisciplinary collaborations. For more information: https://www.labex-efl.fr/formation Research Strand The Labex EFL is organized into five research strands, covering the following linguistic areas: phonetic and phonological complexity experimental grammar from a cross-linguistic perspective typology and dynamics of linguistic systems language representation and processing in a lifespan perspective computational semantic analysis Applications, written either in french or english, should include o A curriculum vitae with a list of publications, training experience o A cover-letter o the name and email of two referees o a research project description (two pages max.)
