Postdoctoral position in corpus linguistics Department of Linguistics, University of Geneva The Department of Linguistics at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, invites applications for a post-doctoral position in corpus linguistics, with applications to natural language processing. The successful candidate will be part of a group whose research focuses on machine translation of pragmatic phenomena. The candidate will participate in the COMTIS SNSF project on the modeling of inter-sentential dependencies (connectives, anaphora, verbal tenses. etc) to improve the output of machine translation systems for the English / French pair. The tasks associated to the position will include the selection of corpora, the definition of annotation guidelines for markers of inter-sentential dependencies, the design of tools for their semi-automatic location, and the supervision of human annotators. The overall goal is to deliver an annotated resource to be used for statistical learning by other COMTIS partners. Applicants will have received a PhD in linguistics, pragmatics or natural language processing. Good knowledge of issues related to language resources and their annotation is highly desirable. Excellent knowledge of both French and English is required. Previous experience with human or machine translation is a plus. The position is offered for two years.
